Results:
In a study of 120 children with asthma, “children with acute exacerbation had significantly higher ferritin levels (median 145 vs. 82 ng/mL, P < 0.001) and eosinophil percentage (6.0% vs. 4.7%, P < 0.001), but lower vitamin D levels (18.6 ± 7.2 vs. 24.3 ± 8.7 ng/mL, P = 0.021).”
Clinical Note: We often see iron metabolism linked to inflammation in general, kids often get way too much iron through processed foods such as breakfast cereals. I’ve also noticed eosinophils higher in kids with many food sensitivities.
